Granules – a signature detail in every piece of jewellery<\/h2>\n

Granules – small spheres of gold or silver – have become an important feature in my designs. I hand-solder these beads onto the jewellery, so it is not an application of the classical granulation technique, in which the beads are fused with a binder and heat. By carefully placing the granules, I give each piece of jewellery texture, depth and its own story.<\/p>\n

Inspiration from the past<\/h3>\n

In 2010, I visited an exhibition on Etruscan gold in Drenthe, the Netherlands The jewellery I saw, especially the ornate patterns of tiny beads, impressed me. The Etruscans mastered the art of attaching small gold spheres to a gold surface. Their craft, which involved fusing granules using binders and heat, inspired me to experiment with granules myself. However, I have developed my own way: I solder the granules with precision and care, maintaining control over shape and placement.<\/p>\n

Making craftsmanship your own<\/h3>\n

Soldering granules also requires patience, precision and a steady hand. Instead of the age-old fusion technique, in which granules are joined at a temperature just below the melting point, I use the modern hard-soldering technique. I experimented with different materials and methods until I found a style that suited me. By intentionally soldering each granule, I maintain control over its position and ensure that the design remains balanced.<\/p>\n

My signature<\/h3>\n

Granules have become my signature over the years. They are more than just decoration; each granule I place tells a small part of the big picture. The pattern of granules is recognisable in my work and symbolises the attention and dedication I put into each piece of jewellery. By using my own way, the structure of the granules remains visible, creating a distinctive, playful sophistication.<\/p>\n

Innovation and experimentation<\/h3>\n

Despite my love for this technique, I am open to innovation. Thus was born the Inside Out collection<\/a>, in which I incorporate granules precisely on the inside of a design. This adds a fresh, symbolic twist and shows that there is always room for new interpretations. Playing with placement, size and material always creates surprising combinations.<\/p>\n

Timeless jewellery with a story<\/h3>\n

Granules connect tradition with modernity. Although the method differs from that of the Etruscans, it continues the idea of small gold balls on a piece of jewellery.
